OK, Mrs Brown has taken a new direction
Synopsis
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who is now living at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown family in tow, an exciting adventure begins when a mystery takes them on an unexpected journey. The director of the previous two films, Paul King, decided not to direct this instalment. However, he pitched the idea for this third film and was brought on board as an executive producer. Paddington (2014) follows. For those who don’t know, previous incumbent Sally Hawkins said it was time to move on.
For a few minutes I thought Oh no!!
I tried to warm to her, but to me Emily Mortimer is just an older product of the London School of Lovely girls. I know the show has gone on, but Emily’s opening gambits are irritating, dull and uninspiring. I tried to warm up to her, she made strange progress later in the film… the least they could have done was give her a meaningful script, she seemed too much like a little wife who doesn’t say much. Sorry Em! Same for Madeleine Harris who plays Judy, excellent, maybe more lines next time, for both of them.
Let’s be fair
Maybe she tried to be Sally Hawkins at times, I’m not sure, but she had big boots to fill and Sally was a smashing success. They all played their roles very well in the end. So anyway, the lovely Peruvian finds himself taking the initiative this time and coming to the rescue of the family members. This journey takes him around the world, guess where… A family member is in trouble and the oldest folly and mortal sin is the cause of all the trouble. The scenery in the far away place is stunning, just beautiful, inspired me to go, as did London which is sadly happy.
the target audience
There is a lot of hilarity in the film, action and even tears, but very young children, not very brave by nature, will find the show not so warm, scary at times, I thought so too. Visually it is as great as the previous films, while the script is at times flat and a bit predictable, the mysteries revealed were simple enough for a five year old to understand… aha… Haha …. this does not take away from the CGI impact of the film and a particularly deafening one. Forget it if you have healthy phobias for certain creatures (not snakes).
a fascinating character from the last film makes an appearance, let’s just say I don’t think this is the end
Bonneville seems to have had a hair transplant, I’m not sure, but as always he is giving a great performance, as well as the Walters and some great newcomers to the story. Hey…
